Financing Options
To pay for tuition, most students combine funding from multiple sources, which may include student loans, external scholarships, tuition reimbursement, or a combination of these sources. Students may receive financial aid up to the Cost of Attendance. After reviewing this page, reach out to our financial aid team with any questions; they can help you determine which combination works best for you.
The Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan is a low-interest federal loan which is not based on financial need. Graduate students may borrow up to $20,500 annually*.
To apply, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be completed annually. Our FAFSA school code is E00514.
Note: For students beginning in the summer 2026 semester, a 2025-2026 FAFSA should be completed.
*Based on full-time enrollment.
Private student loans, sometimes referred to as “Alternative loans” are available through private student loan lenders and may be used to fund educational expenses. A student may borrow a Private/Alternative loan in addition to a Direct Unsubsidized Loan, up to the Cost of Attendance.
Visit the law school financial aid website to learn more about loan options, eligibility, and borrowing guidelines.
For information about funding your graduate education, contact our financial aid office at lawfinaid@wfu.edu or 336.758.6103.
Free national scholarship search tools, such as Scholarships.com, Fastweb, and the AccessLex Law School Scholarship Databank, are good resources for students seeking additional financial support.
Local community organizations and professional associations can also be great resources. Students should avoid any services that charge a fee, as this indicates an unreputable service or potentially even a scam.
Note: If you receive additional aid from other sources, you must notify the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid. The total amount of all sources of financial aid may not exceed the Cost of Attendance.
Active military service members, veterans, spouses, and dependents have access to additional funding through the Yellow Ribbon Program in partnership with the Department of Veterans Affairs. The Yellow Ribbon Program allows military service members and their families to utilize funds to cover tuition expenses and other costs, including books and fees.
For more information about funding for military service members and veterans, visit our veterans education benefits page or contact the veteran affairs team directly at vabenefits@wfu.edu.
