Wake Forest University School of Law admits new students to the online Master of Legal Studies (MLS) three times per year, in the fall, spring, and summer.

Although applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, applicants are encouraged to submit as early as possible to ensure adequate time for review and availability for their preferred start date.

Applicants can expect to receive an admission decision via email within a few weeks of submitting a completed application.

Application Requirements

No GMAT, GRE, or LSAT scores are required. There is no application fee.

Transcripts

Unofficial copies of transcripts (from all institutions attended) can be submitted at the time of application. Accepted students will need to submit official transcripts upon admission.

Letters of Recommendation

Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation. Letters can be from current and former employers or former professors who can speak to the applicant’s ability to succeed in a graduate-level legal studies program.

Résumé/CV

Applicants must have at least one year of professional experience in any field documented on their résumé/CV.

English Language Proficiency Test

If the applicant’s undergraduate degree is from a non-English speaking country, the following minimum English language proficiency test scores are required:

  • TOEFL: 90 or higher. Wake Forest Law’s institution code is C261.
    OR
  • IELTS: 7.0 or higher

Personal Statement

Applicants should upload a personal statement of 750 words or less that shares an insight into their life and experiences that may not be readily apparent in their academic record or résumé and résumé/CV.

Examples of personal statement topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Why do you want to enroll in this program?
  • What is an aspect of your lived experience that is illustrative of your character and perspective, especially an aspect that demonstrates your courage, determination, ingenuity, and/or resilience?
  • Describe an experience or situation when you faced a significant challenge or obstacle, especially as an adult (after high school), that you were able to overcome or circumvent successfully?

Formatting requirements:

  • Double-spaced
  • One-inch margins
  • Text-only (do not include images or visuals)
  • Accessible font (e.g., Arial, Calibri, Helvetica, Times New Roman, Verdana)
  • Black font color
  • 10-point font size or greater
